Details
The European Commission presented on 30 March 2022 a communication on the EU strategy for a sustainable and circular textile sector.
It is a strategic declaration that will fully unfold its effects within the next 4-6 years, but which outlines an important and inspiring path for manufacturing industries and EU markets.
Systemic solutions will be required in line with the ambition of the European Green Deal to "make growth sustainable, climate neutral, energy and resource efficient and respectful of nature and built around an economy clean and circular "because textiles are 'a key value chain in urgent need of change but with strong potential for the transition to sustainable and circular production, consumption and business models'.
The EU Commission underlines the need to undertake some initiatives that cannot be postponed and that will be implemented in the coming years, mostly through legislative actions already planned or in progress, and by establishing among others, span > the introduction of the Digital Product Passport with the obligation to disclose information relating to circularity and sustainability (which and how it will be detailed in the coming months).
The event is an opportunity to reflect on the steps that will need to be taken in the coming years to adapt to the upcoming regulations.
