THE 5th INCLUDING JOINT ACTION

Description

The Bologna Joint Action has been a Table Top Exercise (TTX) organized by ENEA, where participants gathered to discuss and evaluate criticalities in response to a radiological emergency in an urban area.

The 5th Joint Action of INCLUDING has been an interactive Table Top Exercise on "Rapid REsponse to Radiological Attacks in Densely Inhabited Urban Sectors." held in Bologna from 14th to 16th September 2022. The "RARE RADIUS" exercise was designed to allow participants to experience, through a real-time approach, all the typical levels of decision making to face a terroristic radiological attack that could occur in a densely inhabited urban area. The participants have had the opportunity to address the entire process behind the management of an emergency, including also some aspects related to forensics, medicine, and information to mass media. Moreover, the hypothetical use of some novel technologies, useful in dealing with such scenarios, have been implemented within the TTX. These technologies include: a software which precisely and quickly predicts the atmospheric dispersion of pollutants through the streets and buildings of an urban area; one quickly deployable, unmanned, and automated set of devices to measure the contamination on the field; a network of automated spectrometric detectors deployed on public transit, and a set of devices which could be used to make screening tests for external or internal contamination of people, without immediate need of a Whole Body Counter. During the TTX each participant has had its own workstation where injects were sent and displayed.
